TOP 5: Team Building Events

TOP 5: Team Building Events

In the Experiential Marketing Industry quitting time is not always 5pm. Saturdays and Sundays often times become another day of the work week and it can sometimes feel like you haven’t seen other staff members (in office or in field) in forever. It is important to take some time to regroup once in a while and do some team building. Your teams are just like your mobile tour vehicle; maintenance is important. So, in this weeks Top 5 we are sharing  what we believe are some great Team Building events your company can host for its employees.

1. Have a competitive sports day

Nothing says team building like a good old fashioned day of competitive Curling, or maybe a company Softball game. Try to mix up the teams so that people who don’t generally work together are playing together. This helps them work towards a common goal while getting some physical activity in. You don’t need to have a prize for the winning team(s) all the time, because bragging rights are usually sufficient, but if you are prizing, make it something they can all share (even with the losing team).

2. BOOM! U a.k.a. Field Staff Refreshers

Your field staff, or Brand Ambassadors, are a vital piece of your business. At BOOM! we have recently begun our BOOM! U events, where we visit various cities across Canada and host a 2 day refresher for our field staff. Many are returning ambassadors and we also open the door to potential new hires. We have a night out with dinner and dancing and the next day we have some training sessions. Catching up with them shows you appreciate their efforts and gives them a chance to get up to speed on things that may be going on in your organization.

3. Year end recaps and New Year strategy sessions

Keeping up with all of the campaigns going on in the office is not always easy. We recommend weekly updates to help but we also think a Year End recap is vital . It will bring people up to speed and allows team members the chance to give some advice or share things they learned. When that new year arrives, it is a good idea to have another one of these events (whether it be at a restaurant or in office) to share plans for the coming season. Since there is a nice break in between these meetings, due to the Holidays, people come back refreshed and ready to tackle new obstacles.

4. Potlucks

These are a great way for staff to share a bit about themselves through food. This will ensure that your team is fed for the day and gives them a chance to share recipes and try new things.

5. Ski day, beach day, whatever you want to call it!

Sometimes you just need to get out of the office and enjoy the day together. Although the Blackberries are still on and you have to take a client call on the chairlift, it’s still a time where you show appreciation to your staff and get out of the office. It is a great time to share some laid back moments and create new memories together.
